Wegweiser - Trip to future
A high end wheelset from automated production: The German high end manufacturer Lightweight reaches a new evolution level of carbon fibre technology in racing bicycles.
High reproducibility, lower tolerances and integrated quality control: Lightweight started an ambitious project in 2013 with the goal of making wheelsets in automated production, thus making carbonfibre technology competitive in price. Now, the carbon specialist from Friedrichshafen has achieved that goal.
With the new Wegweiser carbon wheelset, the Lightweight engineers are revolutionising carbon wheel construction in Germany. The secret is in the production: Technologies and know-how from aerospace and satellite construction are the foundation for producing an excellent carbon wheel with automated manufacturing processes that meets the brands claim to perfection.
The complex production is based on a simple idea: Craftsmanship is combined with mechanical processing and makes production extremely precise and significantly faster at the same time. The 20 carbon spokes on the rear and front wheel are manually connected with the rim ring from the outside. For the first time, the ring is produced in an independently developed fully automated machine.
The result is a completely new Lightweight wheel of utmost quality that can be offered for an attractive price "Made in Germany". The modern rim width of 24 mm combined with a flat rim height of 36 mm and new spoke connections guarantee the stiffness values and riding characteristics typical for Lightweight at a total weight of less than 1450 grams in the clincher version. In summary, this makes the Wegweiser a superior, disc system wheel with very little maintenance need.
A magnet (for bike computer) and an individually numbered read-only microchip (important for the registration and Wheel Protection) are laminated into each wheel.
Note: All Lightweight products are the result of manual labor. Slight deviations in color or surface finish are characteristic features of this high quality manufacturing procedure.
